Here is what an adjustment IS. An adjustment IS a specific and safe force that is introduced to a subluxated (misaligned) vertebra. The body then uses this force to move the vertebra towards its proper position which allows the nervous system to function better so the body can function and heal more efficiently. Here is what an adjustment IS NOT. An adjustment is NOT a magic trick that magically makes back pain or any other symptom disappear. Consider this. When people see their medical doctor for an illness, they know that they will leave that doctor still feeling sick with a prescription and instructions to take a pill 3 times a day for 10 days. They also know that after those 30 "appointments", they may still be sick and need to go back to their medical doctor. Likewise, people who are experiencing acute back pain or other symptoms are probably going to leave their first chiropractic visit still experiencing some symptoms and with a "prescription" for more adjustments. Then after those adjustments, they may choose, and often do choose, to continue to go back to their chiropractor on a regular basis because they now also understand that the health benefits of chiropractic care go beyond just the relief of symptoms. It's true that people often do report that they feel better in some way after just one adjustment (more energy, better range of motion, breathing easier, better sleep, and yes... even less pain), and that's a very good thing. However, the objective of chiropractic is to correct vertebral subluxations (spinal misalignments) whether or not symptoms are present to allow the master control system of the body, the nervous system, to function better. Whether people still have pain or not (or any other symptom) after an adjustment, they can be confident that with fewer subluxations, they are walking out of the office functioning better than when they walked in.

It captured me the most when you discussed that chiropractic adjustment provides relief to people who are suffering from acute back pain. My brother's back pain is keeping him awake at night. I should tell him to see a specialist in chiropractic care to obtain personalized therapy.

Thank you for explaining that an adjustment won't magically take your back pain away after the first appointment. I've been wondering what to expect for my first chiropractic appointment. It's good to know that it may take several visits to fully relive my chronic back pain.

It really helped when you elaborated on visiting a chiropractor more than once to experience its benefits. Not long ago, my brother started working out again, but I think he got injured during his last session. That's why I'm sure he'll benefit from reading your blog about chiropractor care.

It got me when you said that the benefits of chiropractic care are not just reliving the symptoms we are experiencing. Because of that, I am convinced to try chiropractic care services for my lower back and migraine. I think that there is a problem with my neck or spine causing the migraine, since it usually happens when I sleep on my right side.

While it's gratifying to witness immediate improvements in our patients' well-being after a chiropractic adjustment, our primary aim at TruSpine, a San Francisco Chiropractor is to address vertebral subluxations and enhance the overall function of the nervous system. Whether symptoms are present or not, our focus remains on optimizing the body's master control system for long-term health and vitality.
