A chain reaction occurs when a small event ignites a reaction nearby, setting off another reaction, then another, until it produces an ultimate result. Getting your health back with chiropractic care happens in a similar way.
Chiropractors start the process with a small event called an Adjustment. Spinal adjustments restore a state of Ease in your nervous system which ignites Healing. Over Time your body’s internal Functions light up and you experience Benefits like stronger immunity, deeper sleep, greater physical performance and a confident sense of well-being. The ultimate thing that lights up is your Life. The goal of chiropractic is to ignite life within you so you can regain your health, fulfill your purpose and bring more joy to those around you. Staying ‘lit up’ with regular chiropractic care is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and those you love most.

How much stomach acid does it take to digest a cheeseburger? Or, how much calcium is needed to heal a broken leg? How about a fever, how high should it reach to fight a common cold? You don’t need to surf Google for the answers, your innate search engine already knows.
If you doubt there’s a genius inside you, just consider this---the 50,000,000 cells in your body that will die while you read this sentence… your innate intelligence knows how to replace every single one of them. The trillions of mental impulses coursing through your nervous system at this moment… innate intelligence is moving them at speeds approaching 248 miles per hour. The number of heartbeats you’ll get in a lifetime… innate intelligence reserved around 3 billion for you. Google may be the web’s leading source for information, but it’s got nothing over your innate intelligence when it comes to keeping you alive and well. Your innate intelligence has solutions to just about any health challenge you have. If health is our most precious treasure, stress is a menacing thief trying to rob us of it every day. And if you’re not diligently protecting your health against potential break-ins, chances are you’ll lose it without any warning.
Stress negatively affects our health in many ways, but perhaps the most devastating is its effect on our nerve system. Studies have shown a link between stress and a phenomena called Sympathetic Dominance---a condition where the ‘fight or flight’ functions of your nerve system become chronically overactive, leading to overload in organic functions, fatigue and eventually disease (1). The good news… When stress is trying to rob you blind, chiropractic care is the vault protecting your most valuable assets. Don’t use it just for bad backs and bad necks. You can rely on regular adjustments to safeguard your nerve system and preserve your whole health. (1) Chronic Activation of the Sympathetic Nervous System Journal of Applied Physiology 12/2010 Vol 109 Esler. et al. The weight of a dime, 8-10 mm of Hg, that’s all it takes to drain normal nerve transmission to a trickle. Stretching a nerve by as little as 6% can also decrease it’s signal strength by 70 %. So what does it mean for you?
Your nerve system transmits the data of life. Depending on role, thickness and sheath covering, some nerves can relay information from your brain to your body at speeds exceeding 200 mph. If those impulses are communicating vital instructions like ‘how many times your heart needs to beet,’ or ‘how should your immune system respond to a pre-cancerous lesion,’ you want those messages traveling at the highest possible speeds – with no interference. If those signals get blocked at the spinal level because of misaligned vertebrae (subluxations), damage to your health becomes eminent. Sustained pressure and stretch on spinal nerves may not manifest symptoms immediately. Detrimental effects usually grow silently until a crisis occurs. That’s why it’s important to keep your spine in proper alignment with chiropractic care---so your good health doesn’t stop on a dime. When rough air approaches, pilots put on the seat belt warning light to assure your safety during a turbulent flight. When Life gets bumpy, chiropractic care can keep you strapped in and safe too.
During excessive physical, mental or chemical stress, our bodies react normally with a fight-or-flight sympathetic nerve system response, followed by a parasympathetic calming to relaxed levels---all perfectly orchestrated by your innate intelligence, via a clear nerve system. But if your nerve system is interfered with by subluxations, your ability to adapt successfully to stress becomes weak and compromised---putting you at high risk for long term illness and disease. From fender benders to mental exhaustion, we all encounter occasional turbulence in life. It’s impossible to avoid it---but you don’t have to succumb to it. If your nerve system is kept clear with regular chiropractic care, you’ll be buckled-in and able to handle those situations in a more positive way. Starter’s soreness is common with many physical activities – the ‘start’ of lifting weights, horseback riding, or working in the garden after a long winter off. ‘Starting’ chiropractic care is no different.
If you have joints, muscles and ligaments that have been inactive, don’t be surprised if you’re sore after your first few chiropractic sessions. Your spine may respond with some soreness to the increased motion and new positioning. But don’t worry – the pangs of rekindled function are normal, expected and temporary. As your spine becomes accustomed to its healthier state, the soreness will abate and your comfort levels will improve. It’s important to continue good chiropractic habits to avoid regressing back to where you began. Starter’s soreness can only return if you fail to maintain. Construction sites are hectic---heavy equipment everywhere, orange cones marking hazardous areas, workers tearing up and laying down new asphalt. It's a wonder anything gets done amid the chaos. But behind that chaos is intelligence... a team of well skilled architects, surveyors and foreman are carefully directing the project behind the scenes until it reaches completion.
Like construction projects, healing can appear chaotic and delayed at times. Just when it seems you're making progress, something flairs up... and old problem returns, a new ache arises and it feels like you're slipping backwards. But behind the chaos, a sophisticated innate intelligence is orchestrating the healing process at a level beyond human comprehension. Healing can look ugly from the outside. But be patient -- amid the chaos, organization prevails and progress is happening. Know that the best construction crew (Innate Incorporated) with the best set of blue prints (your chiropractic care plan) is working tirelessly to get the job done. Can a car with bad alignment still be driven? Yes---but it will never steer to its potential. How about one running on 5 cylinders instead of 6? Yes, it too can get you from point A to point B---but it will never accelerate to its potential.
In an effort to squeeze every bit of performance out of a car, you can try using higher octane gas, putting on expensive tires and/or replacing your brake pads, but if the car's alignment and 'spark' are compromised, it'll never perform to the manufacturer's intended specs... likewise with your body. Organic food, cross fitness exercising and Pilates training are nice additives to squeeze more performance out of your body, but you'll never hit your potential if your spinal alignment and nerve system 'spark' are compromised (subluxated). To get the most out of those extra-health activities, you should be subluxation free. Every day, people around the world thank their Chiropractors for giving them their health and their lives back. It's common to hear patients say 'doc, you really did a great job...' and 'doc, you helped me when no one else could.' But the truth is... we can't take all the credit.
While medicine gives most of the credit for healing to the physician or the drug, Chiropractors see it as a team effort with four key players---the Chiropractor who clears interference from the nerve system, the innate wisdom within the patient which orchestrates the healing, the patient who practices good lifestyle habits, and the time it takes for the process to unfold. We're ecstatic when you see results from our service. But never forget, we're not the only one rowing the boat. There are three other oarsmen, pulling in unison... and together we make the perfect, healing team! Does it take a while for you to get going in the morning? Are your joints stiff and achy when you first wake up, and take a few hours to loosen? Stiff, tired joints can leave you feeling and acting older than you are.
Motion is Life. If you let anything sit in one place too long, it's bound to freeze up like a rusted bolt. Spinal joints, subjected to long standing fixations (Vertebral Subluxations) are no different. That's why maintenance chiropractic care is so beneficial. Adjustments unlock 'stuck' joints before they become painful, arthritic, and frozen in place - the longer you wait between visits, the more work required to get them moving again. Like rusted bolts, chronically fixated joints take TLC and more frequent adjustments to become free again. If you want to avoid the hassle, the smart move would be to visit your Chiropractor regularly and not let them get that bad in the first place. |
