Hanging with a Healthier Crowd
You've probably set goals to improve your lifestyle and get your health on track for the New Year. The question is, are you hanging out with the right peopole to succeed?
There's a saying that goes, "If you want to be happy, hang our with happy people." The same can be said for being healthy. Ever notice the people who hang out at the chiropractor's office? They're generally health conscious and excited about life.
If you're committed to renewing your health and improving your life, then spend more time with people who can get you there. We'll be hanging out at Mind & Body Chiropractic waiting for you.
Clark's Power Problem
Clark Griswold stands with bated breath and extension cord in hand as a childlike giddiness overtakes him. The family drum roll commences; he makes the anticipated electrical connection and VOILA… nothing happens.
Clark has a power problem. Although the extension cords are all connected and each individual Christmas light has been inspected with precision, he’s still not connected to the source. It isn’t until his wife ‘adjusts’ the switch in the garage and turns the MAIN Power on that the light show begins. She’d actually make a good chiropractor!
If your wiring is connected and your body parts have all been dutifully inspected by the best doctors in the world, you still won’t function to your potential if you’re not connected 100% to your source… the life sustaining power that flows from your nerve system. Make sure you and your family stay connected to it with regular Chiropractic care during this bustling holiday season.
Not an Overnight Process
Bracing teeth takes time. Altering the position of hard structures (teeth) in soft tissue (gums) requires a good deal of remodeling and changes in supportive structures that have become accustomed to the shape of your smile for so long.
Correcting spinal shape take time as well. Altering the position of vertebrae in soft connective tissue, ligaments and muscles require timely change in the supportive structures that held them there for so long.
When moving teeth for a better cosmetic result or moving spinal bones for a better structural result, you cant expect to see change overnight. Underneath the final result lay months if not years of foundational change that ultimately made the shape change stronger and longer lasting. Every worthwhile change in the body requires time.

Alignment and Spark
Can a car with bad alignment still be driven? Yes, but it will never steer to its potential. How about one running on 5 cylinders instead of 6? Yes, it too can get you from point A to point B, but it will never accelerate to its potential.
In an effort to squeeze every bit of performance out of a car, you can try using higher octane gas, installing expensive tires or replacing your brake pads, but if the car's alignment and 'spark' are compromised, it will never perform to the manufacturer's intended specs...likewise with your body.
Organic food, cross fitness exercising and Pilates training are nice additive to squeeze more performance out of your body, but you'll never perform to your potential if your back alignment and nerve system 'spark' are compromised (subluxated). To get the most out of those health activities, maintain your spinal integrity first with chiropractic care.
A Conducive Environment
When farmers plant, they don't question the seed's innate ability to grow and produce crops. Neither do they dig seeds up every day to verify their progress. They simply prepare the soil as best as they can and trust nature to handle the rest.
Similarly, chiropractors don't question your innate ability to heal when we remove interference in your spine (subluxations). We know that each human body is blessed with an internal intelligence---an auto pilot capable enough to coordinate and carry out all the steps required to build and repair damaged tissue when necessary. By adjusting, we're simply maintaining an environment conducive for that healing process to occur (a clear nervous system) and trusting the innate wisdom in the patient to run the show.
The only thing a doctor can ever heal is himself or herself. Likewise, the only one capable of healing you is the 'doctor' inside you. The best physicians in the world recognize and yield to this awesome power within every patient. The best we can do is prep the 'soil' and get out of the way.
Chiropractic Colored Glasses
What does the world look like through chiropractic colored glasses? Does your health shine brighter? Are your relationships with friends and family more in focus? Is your job performance sharper and crisper?
You 'see' everything through your nervous system - how you feel, how you interact with people, how you perform at home or work. When your nerves are stressed, the line between barely existing and fully living is blurred. However, the more clear your nerve system, the better your ability to interact with the world around you.
When a chiropractic adjustment removes stress from your nervous system, it's like cleaning the dirt, streaks and smudges from the lens through which you interpret the world. Then with a clear lens, you can see all your potential. Life is more vibrant when you're viewing it through chiropractic glasses.
Forget Someone at Home?
Studies show that stress from the birth process alone is enough to produce pediatric subluxations - subtle, yet significant vertebral misalignments which alter normal nerve function in children. And don't forget the stress they experience from falling off bikes, rough housing with siblings or just trying to fit in at school. Kids are inherently subluxation prone!
If you bring your kids to the dentist for preventative maintenance as soon as they get teeth, it only makes sense you bring them to the chiropractor as soon as they get a spine. In other words, don't leave them at home. Get them checked early and regularly for subluxations. You're investing in their health and future when you do.
According to a 2006 study, "people in the United States are more likely to feel their stress increases rather than decreases during the holidays," citing, "the holidays can be a hectic time for many, and a lack of money, a lack of time, and the hype and commercialism" is the cause of it all. No doubt the self-induced stress of Black Friday and Cyber Monday can lead to Subluxation Tuesday.
The antidote: Don't stress over finding the right present; instead, try BEING present. And don't forget to get adjusted to help reduce stress on your nervous system too.
The Dow Jones of Healing
Healing is like the stock market. It never progresses in a straight line. You've got to expect some ups and downs along the way.
You might experience a surge of relief when you first start your Chiropractic care only to be followed by a set back. Soon you're back on track, seeing huge improvements. Progress continues with bouts of highs and lows, and you may even experience a plateau or dip in your improvements. But don't make the mistake of 'pulling out of the market' early.
Keep the big picture in mind. Like stocks, the gains in chiropractic care are best seen over time. When you look back and see how far you've come since your first visit, you'll realize LIFE dividends are paying off.
Flies and Garbage Cans
Ever notice that flies like to congregate around dirty, neglected garbage cans? You don't usually see them swarming near clean ones. The same can be said for germs and viruses.
Germs are like flies... they're opportunistic. Give them a 'dirty' place and they'll settle and multiply. Provide a weak host and they'll take advantage. But that's not the case in clean, well kept environments. BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, said, "If the germ theory was true, we would all be dead." He recognized that germs thrive in individuals who aren't strong enough to fight back.
If you keep your body tidy which includes keeping your nervous system clear through regular chiropractic adjustments, germs and viruses are less capable of taking up residence in you. And if they make the mistake of trying to, your healthy, well-adjusted body will give them the boot!
