Remember the days of pulling and ‘all-nighter’ for a major exam---trying to cram an entire semester’s worth of work in one, non-stop studying marathon? Well, you can’t get away with that when it comes to your health and chiropractic.
There are some who wish they could simply go to the chiropractor and have the years of aches, pains and health issues erased in just one cram session---a chiropractic all-nighter if you will. But like cramming for a test, a quick chiropractic patch job is temporary at best. Last minute adjustments for long standing problems will always yield fleeting results. It takes sustained, consistent care over time to make measurable changes to bad spines. So if you think you can re-call a cervical lordosis or undo years of poor bio-mechanics with one 24 hour sleepless chiropractic binge, think again. There is no such thing as pulling and all-nighter when it comes to getting your health and your spinal integrity back.

What do ‘walkers’ and the chronically subluxated have in common? Both are doomed to aimlessly wander the earth more dead than fully alive.
It’s common for those suffering with chronic subluxation to feel tired, fatigued and disinterested in life---like they’re barely existing. If left undetected, chronic subluxations interfere with the normal flow of power in your nerve system, leaving you physically, mentally and emotionally drained. The result: you end up walking around in a trance-like state, clueless to the fact that you’d feel more alive if you simply got adjusted. Do you know someone who’s meandering through life like the walking dead? Nothing’s scarier than living hopelessly in a ‘zombie-like-fog’ because of subluxations. Reach out and tell them how chiropractic care can transform them from the walking dead to the well-adjusted! A gradual decline to disorder - this is the law of entropy, where exposure to external forces without protective resistance leads to break down. Leave a classic car exposed to the elements without protection and it eventually rusts to nothing. In the absence of appropriate effort, things tend to fall apart.
Your spine is no different. The wear and tear it experiences from normal activities of daily living is expected. Even gravity negatively affects order within your body. In chiropractic, it's called subluxation (mis-alignment, fixation and dysfunction of spinal joints with aberrant neurological effects), and if the appropriate effort (an adjustment) is not provided over time, entropy wins and your health loses. So what's the solution? If you eat, you're going to get plaque on your teeth - so brush. If you live, you're going to get subluxations in your spine - so get adjusted. It's that simple. A chain reaction occurs when a small event ignites a reaction nearby, setting off another reaction, then another, until it produces an ultimate result. Getting your health back with chiropractic care happens in a similar way.
Chiropractors start the process with a small event called an Adjustment. Spinal adjustments restore a state of Ease in your nervous system which ignites Healing. Over Time your body’s internal Functions light up and you experience Benefits like stronger immunity, deeper sleep, greater physical performance and a confident sense of well-being. The ultimate thing that lights up is your Life. The goal of chiropractic is to ignite life within you so you can regain your health, fulfill your purpose and bring more joy to those around you. Staying ‘lit up’ with regular chiropractic care is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and those you love most. “The Packers never lost a game… they just ran out of time.” – Vince Lombardi. Coach Lombardi’s quote sums up his unwavering belief in his team’s ability to win every game, if given enough time to execute their winning game plan. Chiropractors hold a similar, unwavering belief in your body’s ability to reach its full potential.
The 6th Principle of Chiropractic states “there is no process which does not require time,” including the healing process. BJ Palmer (the developer of chiropractic) believed that given enough time and a clear nervous system, the body could heal itself in just about any situation. This is the foundation of all successful chiropractic experiences. Your body knows all the plays needed to flourish, and it won’t lose the game, if you provide enough time on the clock. How much stomach acid does it take to digest a cheeseburger? Or, how much calcium is needed to heal a broken leg? How about a fever, how high should it reach to fight a common cold? You don’t need to surf Google for the answers, your innate search engine already knows.
If you doubt there’s a genius inside you, just consider this---the 50,000,000 cells in your body that will die while you read this sentence… your innate intelligence knows how to replace every single one of them. The trillions of mental impulses coursing through your nervous system at this moment… innate intelligence is moving them at speeds approaching 248 miles per hour. The number of heartbeats you’ll get in a lifetime… innate intelligence reserved around 3 billion for you. Google may be the web’s leading source for information, but it’s got nothing over your innate intelligence when it comes to keeping you alive and well. Your innate intelligence has solutions to just about any health challenge you have. Your nervous system is the ultimate sponge, soaking up all the experiences, sensations, and stresses you encounter every day. Like a sponge, it can only absorb so much before it becomes over-saturated and spills stress into your body. The result… pain, sickness, and weak performance!
The best thing you can do to prevent nervous system over saturation is to get check by your chiropractor regularly and adjusted as necessary. Adjustments “wring out” accumulated tension in your nervous system before it has a chance to build up and affect your health negatively. If you’re feeling super-soaked from the stress of life, bring your saturated nerves to the chiropractor for some TLC. You’ll experience more energy, improved sleep, and a better overall feeling of wellness if you do. If health is our most precious treasure, stress is a menacing thief trying to rob us of it every day. And if you’re not diligently protecting your health against potential break-ins, chances are you’ll lose it without any warning.
Stress negatively affects our health in many ways, but perhaps the most devastating is its effect on our nerve system. Studies have shown a link between stress and a phenomena called Sympathetic Dominance---a condition where the ‘fight or flight’ functions of your nerve system become chronically overactive, leading to overload in organic functions, fatigue and eventually disease (1). The good news… When stress is trying to rob you blind, chiropractic care is the vault protecting your most valuable assets. Don’t use it just for bad backs and bad necks. You can rely on regular adjustments to safeguard your nerve system and preserve your whole health. (1) Chronic Activation of the Sympathetic Nervous System Journal of Applied Physiology 12/2010 Vol 109 Esler. et al. If you want to be better at work, better in sports, or better for your family… regular chiropractic care can give you the edge you’re looking for to be more productive in all aspects of your Life.
Your body’s ability to function at its best is only as good as its ability to respond to messages from your nervous system. While good nutrition, exercise and proper rest do contribute positively to the health of every cell and tissue in your body, it’s the free flow of mental impulses within your nervous system that keeps all those cells and tissues razor focused on their physiological tasks at hand – leading to clearer thinking on the job, better muscle reaction on the field, and deeper experiences with your loved ones. A key factor to personal success is the ability to consistently perform physically and mentally to your potential. It’s no coincidence that so many pro-athletes, corporate leaders and celebrities look to chiropractic to keep their edge. It can help you and your family stay sharp too. It can often be easy for people (especially those new to chiropractic care) to make the mistake of crediting the adjustment for healing them or taking away their pain. Adjustments, however, don’t actually heal anything. It’s the time you stay IN adjustment, allowing your innate intelligence to heal you, that produces the result.
Healing is a process of re-creating yourself---replacing sick, old, tired cells with newer, stronger ones over time. The quality of those new, replaced cells depends on your body’s natural recuperative abilities to work uninterrupted. Chiropractic adjustments simply keep your nervous system interference free long enough, providing ‘in order’ time for your innate intelligence to accomplish the job. Ultimately, it’s the doctor inside of you (plus time) that mends and keeps you well. |
